Celebration time! I actually finished 23 Things! And I've gone back to review some of the things. I have another contact on Linkedin; I've used Del.icio.us several times; I've explored youtube and shared some of the fun things I found there.
I learned quite a bit during this process, a lot of it about my ability to learn on-line. I do appreciate the opportunity to be paid while learning about some of these things. I would never have explored any of these sites on work time had we not been encouraged to do so. With that said, I can't say I was over-joyed with the process. But I know more than I did in February, I learned that I can learn on line, and I know more of what I need to make the most of my on-line learning. I can empathize with patrons who feel at sea, looking at a computer & trying to figure out what, exactly, is supposed to be done with the thing. I know I have some limits that must be placed on my surroundings if I am to work on a new on-line application. This is not a place where multi-tasking is a good thing.
I hope the links remain on our intranet...I'd like to continue exploring and learning about the things I started with.

web 2.0
Web 2.0...the awards list included many of the sites we have been reviewing through 23 things. I tried some new sites. Have never gone on Craigslist, so I explored that. Things I'm interested in don't seem to be listed, but there are some things I could list & offer to new homes. That seems useful. Also looked at Biblio, and found some books that my son wants to have, so that seems like a good site for locating books. I signed up for peertrainer...seems to be more diet focused than exercise focused, but it was interesting. The sites I was most interested in are not free sign-ups, so I passed on the other health sites listed on the Awards list.
I liked the organization of the awards list, for looking quickly for sites that would interest me. The other link in thing 20 did not bring me to any site (temporarily unavailable), so I didn't get to do a search there.
As my last post indicated, I'm finally getting the hang of "thinging", as my co-worker calls this process. And I finally feel that I'm learning some of what I hoped from 23 things. So at this point, I can truthfully say I'm glad I'm doing the things.

FUN!
Dare I say it? This week's 23 things have actually been fun! This is more the way I thought 23 things would be, and what a relief!
When I signed in again, the delicious wizard (link? icon?) was actually ON my toolbar. So I could use it, and had fun. I went to Google Labs and enjoyed playing there. Then today I looked at the Google word processing. I created a document; it worked; I could re-open it. It is saved as untitled, but I did get some tags added. I understand tags. I guess I am trainable after all!
Anyway, I laughed instead of grumbled, and enjoyed playing with 23 things.
Now I can say a more heartfelt "thank you" to PPLD for this opportunity. This is what I hoped for, and I'm glad I stuck with it through the aggravation.

last of week 8, again
Ok, delicious worked for me...at least I could enter the site, create an account, and look at the site. What didn't work, the snag for this week, is that I can't get the delicious toolbar to show on my computer. Maybe because I am at work, but I can't change the toolbar option to allow delicious tag & favorite icons to show. So it is a little hard to actually use the delicious site.
Also, forgot to copy the blog confirmation for my last blog, earlier today, where I blogged about library 2.0. So anyone wanting to read that blog will need to just go back in the history & review my blog entries.
Another week's assignments done, some success & some less successful work.

week 8 of 23 things
Another 23 Things week, and I found some success. Delicious site would not open, from any of the links in 23 things site. So although I read about how wonderful it is and how easy to tag an email rather than placing it in a folder, I didn't get to play in the site yet. I will return, if it cooperates. Technorati probably will not be something I return to after 23 Things days are done, but I did some searches & found some things of interest.
I really enjoyed the comments about Web 2.0 and Library 2.0. It helped put my 23 Things experience in a different perspective. In particular, I thought about how libraries need to make our offerings easy for patrons to access and use. I thought about the frustration I've had with some of the 23 Things, and imagined folks who use technology even less than I do, and I wonder how to help them to use the technological advances that I know are coming. I'm not sure how we do that, but I wonder if an in-person, hands-on training of some sort would be used by patrons. I'll continue thinking about that idea.
This part of the week 8 offerings was by far the most interesting to me. I'll go back and look more at Library 2.0

confused again
Not total confusion, but once again, I missed a step in the process of social networking. The Facebook was ok...I searched around in it, invited someone to be a friend, looked for people from my past. That went fine. I kind of knew what to expect of facebook, so that was not a struggle.
Ning was ok also, but I went to library 2.0 (related site) and did not realize that it was just for an example of a ning networking site. So I signed up there & couldn't find the PPLD site (surprise, surprise, since I was on the wrong site). Fortunately I asked someone who had already gone this way & was re-directed to the ning.com site where I should have gone originally. So I made an extra turn along the way. Library 2.0 is probably not a site I'll use again. I did get signed up at ning.com, joined the PPLD site (right where it was supposed to be!). So success again?
Not sure I'll use ning.com, but I can see where it might be used as a team communication or small group tool for PPLD. My question would be if it would be helpful, since we are already on OUTLOOK for PPLD communication...do we really need another communication method?

turning the corner
Well, to my amazement and absolute delight, this selection of things was NOT frustrating. I don't know if it's the title of the week's assignment for 23 Things (Play Week), or my being so tired of my own whining, or that I finally am resigned to and prepared for the process, but things 10, 11 & 12 were ok...and maybe even good. That has to be a relief to my co-workers as well, since they must also be very tired of my ill-humor after I work on 23 Things. So, celebration must be in order. Maybe I should bring chocolate?
Linkedin was ok, easy to set up, ok to connect to. I did see some folks I knew, thanks to all at PPLD who have gone before me into this application.
LibraryThing was also easy to get on and to register books on. I could see spending time here, and it might be actually fun to set up my library here.
Rollyo might be useful...I need to spend more than the introduction here in order to make that judgement. At this moment, I am happy to have an overview of how it works. I'll decide if I want to spend more time customizing this or if it would not be worthwhile for me.
So, although I am still very behind in the suggested schedule for 23 Things, I am much happier with the process this week.
Should I say success?
